SAHARA has initiated and actively participated in issues concerning social justice and environment protection
SAHARA supports community action regarding local environmental and cultural issues, by acting as a platform to collectivise local community and seek external technical and legal help, when needed
Social workers, activists and researchers often work with SAHARA around important social, cultural and environmental issues in Kullu region. Everyone contributes for the development of inclusive, socially just and self reliant community in individual and collective manner.
SAHARA and social workers in the region work regularly with panchayats, local CSOs, associations and individuals for local issues.
Tirthan river protection against hydel projects
SAHARA played key role, including becoming a party in Himachal High Court for the issue concerning restriction of micro hydel projects in sacred Tirthan river
Safeguarding community rights during formation of GHNP and World Heritage Site in and around GHNPCA
As a result of SAHARA’s advocacy and local mobilisation efforts, famous Niharnee Jan Sunwai (Public Hearing) took place, where out three demands were met: no restriction on local deities sacred spaces, stop displacement of Sakti Maraud villages, and GHNP eco-tourism policy be developed concerning livelihood for local communities
